Mosaddek Hossain’s unbeaten 86 and Nahid Rana’s four-wicket haul secure series lead

Bangladesh have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match One Day International series against Australia, securing victory by 86 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. The win marks the first time Bangladesh has defeated Australia in an ODI since 2005, ending a 21-year winless streak against the visitors.

Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 284/8, anchored by a resilient batting performance. Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto established a strong foundation with a 96-run partnership. Tamim scored 54 from 44 balls, while Shanto contributed 67, before Mosaddek Hossain took control of the innings. Making a significant return to the international side, Hossain remained unbeaten on 86 off 70 deliveries, including seven fours and three sixes, to lift the team to a challenging target.

In response, Australia’s chase was hampered by early wickets and a disruptive spell from pacer Nahid Rana. Rana finished with match figures of 4/41, dismissing key batsmen including Alex Carey for 47, Liam Scott for 2, and Xavier Bartlett for 1. His aggression troubled the Australian lineup throughout the innings, forcing them well behind the required rate under the revised target.

Tensions briefly flared on the field when Rana dismissed stand-in Australian captain Josh Inglis on the first ball of the 11th over. After extracting extra bounce from a back-of-a-length delivery to force an edge behind the stumps, Rana celebrated passionately, leading to a brief exchange of words with Inglis. Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz intervened to calm the situation and guide the Australian skipper off the field.

Despite resistance from Cameron Green, who remained unbeaten on 52, Australia could not recover from their early setbacks. They finished the innings at 51/3, falling short of the DLS target. Mustafizur Rahman claimed two wickets for Bangladesh, supporting Hossain’s economical bowling spell. The series continues with the second ODI scheduled for June 11.
