Atletico Madrid will keep pushing to finalise deal for Barcelona target this week – report
Sporting director Mateu Alemany remains determined to secure the free agent by week’s end, despite reports of an advanced agreement with FC Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid are intensifying their efforts to sign midfielder Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, competing directly with FC Barcelona for the free agent. The 31-year-old is set to leave the English club and is expected to join a Spanish side next season, with Atletico aiming to finalise the transfer by the end of the week.

Reports indicate that Barcelona has reached an advanced agreement with Silva, who is reportedly keen on the move. However, the Catalan club is waiting to finalise one or two departures before confirming the signing. According to MARCA, Atletico remain determined to secure the deal despite the emergence of Barcelona as a rival.

The situation has become more complex following Barcelona’s entry into the race. Some figures within Atletico question the veracity of the Catalans’ pursuit, suspecting that the interest is a strategic leak linked to ongoing tensions between the two clubs regarding Julian Alvarez. There are concerns that the links could be designed to complicate negotiations or drive up salary demands.

Negotiations with Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, were previously expected to conclude before the start of the World Cup. Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany continues to pursue the transfer, arguing that Silva would be a central figure in manager Diego Simeone’s project, whereas he is not considered a top priority at Barcelona.

Despite reports that Silva has an agreement with Barcelona and that Hansi Flick has approved the deal, Atletico are confident that his positive response to their initial approach remains unchanged. The final destination of the versatile midfielder remains undecided as both clubs continue their pursuit.
