AT&T Inc. (T) Announces Launch of eSim for International Travelers
Telecom giant targets summer soccer visitors with new data packages while pursuing infrastructure deal with rivals

AT&T Inc. announced on 18 May the launch of an eSIM service designed for international travellers visiting the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The new offering specifically targets visitors attending summer soccer games, with the company introducing a travel package that includes unlimited data and 5GB of hotspot access. Unlimited talk and text services are scheduled to be added to the package at a later date, though no specific timeline has been provided.

To streamline its digital connectivity options, AT&T has simplified its eSIM offerings by introducing flexible passes. Customers can now purchase one-day passes for the United States only, or opt for broader coverage across the United States or the entirety of North America. This move aims to provide greater convenience for transient users navigating the region’s telecommunications landscape.

In a separate development announced on 14 May, AT&T revealed a joint venture with competitors T-Mobile and Verizon. The agreement aims to address wireless dead zones in the United States, particularly in rural areas, by pooling spectrum resources. The joint venture intends to raise capacity, enhance customer experience, and assist satellite providers in reaching more customers through a unified platform.

Management stated that the joint venture remains subject to ongoing negotiations between the parties to reach definitive agreements and to satisfying customary closing conditions. The collaboration represents a significant shift in strategy, as the three major carriers work together to improve network infrastructure rather than competing solely on spectrum acquisition.

AT&T operates through its Communications and Latin America segments, offering wireline telecom, wireless, and broadband services in the US and globally, while managing services in Mexico via the Latin America segment. While the company is viewed as a strong communication stock, analysts note that certain AI stocks may offer greater upside potential with less downside risk in the current market environment.
