Asus Unveils Secondary Touchscreen Monitor and New OLED Gaming Display
Asus has announced two new monitors under its ROG Strix line, including a compact touchscreen sidekick and a high-refresh-rate gaming screen, though official pricing remains unconfirmed.
Asus has announced the launch of two new monitors designed to cater to distinct segments of the gaming and content creation market. The company introduced the 12.3-inch ROG Strix XG129C, a touchscreen IPS display intended to function as a secondary sidekick for larger primary screens. Simultaneously, Asus revealed the 34-inch ROG Strix OLED XG34WCDMS, which features a high-end RGB Tandem QD-OLED panel for immersive gaming experiences.
The ROG Strix XG129C is positioned to compete directly with Corsair's 14.5-inch Xeneon Edge, offering a slightly smaller footprint at 12.3 inches while maintaining a 720p resolution. Drawing design inspiration from the secondary display found in the 2020 Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 laptop, this new unit aims to replicate the utility of Elgato's Stream Deck. It is designed to serve as an extension for streaming or editing setups, allowing users to control software and monitor PC performance without relying on a keyboard or mouse.
To add value to the hardware, Asus has included a one-year subscription to the hardware monitoring tool AIDA64 Extreme with the XG129C. This software, which is typically sold separately for $65, will allow users to track system metrics directly on the secondary screen. The display also boasts a colour gamut coverage of 125 percent of sRGB and 90 percent of DCI-P3, ensuring adequate colour accuracy for general productivity and light creative work.
The accompanying OLED model, the ROG Strix OLED XG34WCDMS, targets high-performance gamers with a 3440 x 1440p resolution and a rapid 280Hz refresh rate. Utilising RGB Tandem QD-OLED technology, the panel is reported to cover 99 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, providing deep blacks and vibrant colours suitable for competitive gaming and media consumption.
Despite the detailed specifications released for both devices, Asus has not yet officially announced pricing or specific release dates. The absence of confirmed retail figures means consumers must await further updates from the manufacturer to determine the final cost of entry for these new additions to the ROG Strix portfolio.
