ASUS Unveils Limited-Edition ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle to Mark ROG’s 20th Anniversary
The new device features a 7.4-inch OLED display and redesigned cooling, but ASUS has not released official launch details or retail pricing for the collector’s bundle.
ASUS has released the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a limited-edition handheld gaming PC designed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its Republic of Gamers (ROG) sub-brand. The device is exclusively available as a bundle with the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 AR gaming glasses and cannot be purchased separately. Key hardware upgrades include a new 7.4-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED panel with up to 1,400-nit peak brightness, replacing the 7-inch IPS screen found in the previous model. The bundle also features redesigned airflow channels and a translucent black chassis with gold accents. While the standalone Xreal R1 glasses retail for approximately $849 and the previous ROG Xbox Ally model costs around $1,000, the official pricing and launch date for this specific bundle remain unconfirmed, with estimates suggesting a cost upwards of $2,000.
The handheld shares the same core hardware architecture as last year’s ROG Xbox Ally, utilising an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. The display has been upgraded to a Nebula HDR OLED panel that offers a 0.2ms response time, VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 certification, and full Dolby Vision support. It is protected by Corning DXC glass with an anti-reflective coating. To manage the heat sensitivity inherent in OLED technology, ASUS has redesigned the internal airflow channels to keep display temperatures lower during sustained use.
Input mechanisms have also been refined for this iteration. The device incorporates TMR joystick technology for improved precision and tracking, alongside a Transforming D-Pad that provides eight-way control. The face buttons have been redesigned to sit flush with the chassis to facilitate smoother thumb movement, while the rear of the handgrips features a rubberized coating for enhanced comfort. The translucent black plastic chassis is engineered to showcase the internal processor and cooling system, accented with gold detailing to align with the anniversary theme.
The bundle includes the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 AR gaming glasses, which feature a matching black and gold colourway. These glasses utilise micro-OLED technology to project a virtual 171-inch screen at a distance of 4 meters, supporting a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.01ms response time. They feature native 3DoF head tracking and connect to the handheld via a USB-C cable. ASUS has positioned the X20 as a "true collector's item," noting that the bundling strategy may help offset the high cost of the handheld component rather than discounting the glasses.
Software features include support for Auto SR preview, a technology previously reserved for Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs, which aims to deliver sharper and smoother graphics. Despite the hardware specifications and anniversary branding, ASUS has not announced an official launch date or retail price for the bundle. Industry estimates suggest the combined package could exceed $2,000, given the individual costs of the previous generation handheld and the standalone AR glasses, which became available on 15 May.
