Astros combine for historic no-hitter in 9-0 Rangers rout
The Houston Astros defeated the Texas Rangers 9-0 at Globe Life Field, marking the sixth no-hitter thrown against the Rangers and the first combined effort in their history.

The Houston Astros secured a decisive 9-0 victory over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field, recording a combined no-hitter that stands as the sixth in the Rangers’ franchise history and the first to be achieved through a pitching staff effort. The game, which opened the series, saw the Rangers’ offense reach what reports described as rock bottom, failing to record a single hit against the Astros’ battery and defensive unit.
Astros right-hander Tatsuya Imai initiated the historic performance by pitching six scoreless, no-hit innings. He was supported by a defense that made critical plays to preserve the shutout. In the fourth inning, shortstop Jeremy Pena fielded a ground ball behind second base and relayed the throw to first baseman Christian Walker, who made a difficult dig to record the out.
The no-hit streak was further tested in the fifth inning when centre fielder Jake Meyers made two running catches. Meyers secured a fly ball from Justin Focue and followed it with a catch on a hard drive from Danny Jansen. The defensive intensity continued into the sixth, where third baseman Isaac Paredes fielded a hard grounder from Alejandro Osuna to record the final out of Imai’s outing.
Two unnamed relievers completed the no-hitter, finishing the game without allowing a hit. The Rangers’ offensive struggles were evident prior to the contest; in their previous game on Sunday night, they managed only one hit through eight innings before finishing with three. This performance capped a difficult road trip for Arlington and followed a start against Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti on May 15, where the Rangers were no-hit for 7 1/3 innings.
The Astros’ offense capitalised on the pitching dominance, scoring four runs in the first five innings against Rangers starter Kumar Rocker and adding five more in the seventh. The last time the Rangers were no-hit was on May 19, 2021, by New York Yankees right-hander Corey Kluber.
