Tom Aspinall picks Ciryl Gane vs. Alex Periera winner at UFC White House
Heavyweight champion questions punch resistance and leg-kick defence in interim title preview

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has publicly predicted that Ciryl Gane will defeat Alex Pereira by points in the interim heavyweight title fight at UFC Freedom 250. Speaking on the Fight Your Corner Podcast, Aspinall provided his first detailed breakdown of the matchup, arguing that Gane’s superior movement and footwork would neutralise Pereira’s power. The bout is scheduled to take place at the White House.

Aspinall acknowledged Pereira as a "generational talent" and noted the historical significance of the former middleweight and light heavyweight champion potentially becoming the first person to win titles in three different weight classes. However, he expressed scepticism regarding whether Pereira’s knockout power translates effectively against heavyweight opposition, noting that Pereira has previously fought smaller opponents with less punch resistance.

The champion highlighted Gane’s experience as a key factor, citing the former interim heavyweight champion’s ability to withstand five rounds of punishment from heavy hitters such as Francis Ngannou. Aspinall questioned whether Gane’s punch resistance would remain intact against Pereira’s heavier strikes but ultimately favoured Gane’s technical advantages, specifically his fluid movement and distance judgment.

Conversely, Aspinall identified Pereira’s leg-kicking as a specific threat to Gane, noting that the Frenchman’s leg-kick defence is not robust. He explained that Pereira utilises leg kicks to stop movement before closing the distance for a left hook, a tactic that could disrupt Gane’s rhythm. Despite these concerns, Aspinall maintained that Gane’s mobility would likely allow him to control the pace and secure a decision victory.

Aspinall admitted he "struggles to pick a winner at this stage," reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the bout. He also touched on potential future unification fights, suggesting that a matchup against Pereira might generate more interest than a rematch with Gane, despite his personal desire for revenge against the former interim champion.
