Why Arsenal are confident of signing Monga ahead of United
Gunners’ development model impresses 16-year-old winger amid relegation fallout

Arsenal are reportedly in a commanding position to sign Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, aiming to disrupt Manchester United’s efforts to secure the 16-year-old forward. The Gunners are described as pushing aggressively behind the scenes to beat United and Manchester City to the player’s signature, with sources indicating the club is increasingly confident of finalising the deal.

The situation has alerted elite clubs across Europe due to Monga’s contract status. The teenager has not yet signed a professional agreement with Leicester City, despite making 27 appearances in the Championship last season and making his Premier League debut in 2025. Leicester’s impending relegation to League One is expected to facilitate his departure from King Power Stadium this summer.

Arsenal’s advantage is attributed to their institutional framework. Reports suggest that the club’s development structure, pathway plans, and recent success in integrating elite young talent into the first-team environment have made a major impression on Monga and his representatives. Ruud van Nistelrooy has previously described Monga as a fantastic talent, underscoring the high regard in which the player is held.

Manchester United remain in contention for Monga and have held formal talks with Leicester City, according to initial reports relayed by The Peoples Person. However, the Red Devils appear to be diversifying their transfer focus. They are currently prioritising the finalisation of the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson and are also admirers of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who is set to leave the Hammers following their relegation to the Championship.

While United are reportedly Fernandes’ first pick ahead of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, the immediate focus remains on securing key midfield reinforcements. All three clubs—Arsenal, United, and Manchester City—have made firm approaches for Monga, but Arsenal’s structural appeal currently places them in a very strong position to secure the record-breaking teenage winger.
