Arnold set for Seahawks deal amid ongoing legal proceedings

Former Detroit Lions first-round selection Terrion Arnold is poised to sign a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, pending approval from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The move, confirmed by CBS Sports senior reporter Matt Zenitz, marks a significant transition for the defensive back, who was released by Detroit in February following the filing of felony charges in Florida.
Arnold’s potential arrival in Seattle comes as he navigates a complex legal landscape. He faces an arraignment hearing on Thursday in Tampa, Florida, and confronts the possibility of a life sentence if convicted of charges related to robbery and kidnapping. The charges stem from an incident in Largo, Florida, where Arnold and associates were allegedly robbed of more than $250,000 in property, including $100,000 in cash and an $80,000 necklace.
According to police reports, Arnold and his group subsequently detained three men they believed were responsible for the initial theft. While Arnold was not physically present during the assault, investigators allege he monitored the event via a live stream and acted as the primary conspirator. Arnold has denied involvement in the robbery, and five other suspects were arrested in February and March in connection with the incident.
Despite the severity of the allegations, Arnold secured a legal concession last month when Chief Judge Christopher C. Sabella denied the state’s request to keep him in custody until trial. The judge granted Arnold permission to travel for work, allowing him to visit teams, though he must otherwise remain in Florida. In support of his release, Arnold received a character reference letter from former college coach Nick Saban, who vouched for his integrity and conduct during his time at Alabama.
Arnold, selected 24th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, recorded 22 starts and 18 pass break-ups during his tenure with the Lions before a season-ending shoulder injury limited his play last year. He joins a Seahawks secondary that ranked fifth in the NFL in interceptions prior to their Super Bowl LX victory. The unit, which includes starters Devon Witherspoon and Julian Love, provides a high-profile destination for Arnold as he seeks to continue his career amidst ongoing judicial proceedings.
