Araujo welcomes Real Madrid disruption as Barcelona secure La Liga title
The Uruguayan defender spoke to La Revuelta regarding the altercation that ruled out Fede Valverde, confirming his long-term future at the Catalan club.

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has acknowledged that disruptions to Real Madrid’s preparations prior to El Clasico served the home side well, as the club secured the La Liga title with a 2-0 victory. Speaking to La Revuelta, Araujo addressed the controversy surrounding an altercation between Real Madrid players Fede Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, which resulted in Valverde being hospitalised and ruled out of the fixture.
The incident occurred before the high-stakes match, removing a key midfielder from the Real Madrid lineup. Araujo, who is also a teammate of Valverde at the international level, admitted he was not displeased to see the rivals encounter difficulties ahead of such a significant contest. He noted that while the specifics of the clash remain unclear to him, the outcome was strategically advantageous for Barcelona.
“A little trouble at our eternal rivals is always good for us,” Araujo stated. He added that he intends to address the matter directly with Valverde when the squad next convenes for national team duties, describing the midfielder as a “great professional and a great person” while noting he does not yet know the exact details of what transpired.
Beyond the tactical implications of the match, Araujo used the interview to clarify his own standing at the club, dispelling any immediate speculation regarding a departure. He confirmed that he has no plans to leave Barcelona, highlighting the stability of his current agreement which is valid until 2031.
The defender explained that he has renewed his contract twice, most recently in the near past, and indicated that there is one further renewal option remaining. This commitment underscores his long-term association with the club as they celebrate their latest league championship.
