Apple Unveils Personalised App Store Recommendations and New Developer Tools
The tech giant introduces 'Personalised Collections' and expanded promotional utilities for developers as the App Store ecosystem matures.

Apple has launched personalised app recommendations within the App Store, marking a significant shift in how users discover software. Announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the update tailors suggestions to individual users based on their download history and behavioural patterns. This move signals a departure from reliance on traditional editorial curation, aiming to address the increasing competition for user attention in a matured marketplace.
The new system introduces 'Personalised Collections' and 'App Notes', which provide transparency by explaining the rationale behind specific recommendations. These suggestions appear across the Apps and Games tabs as well as the Search interface, evolving over time as users interact with the platform. Initially, the feature is available in English within the United States, with Apple confirming plans to expand the functionality to other regions and languages over time.
Beyond user-facing changes, the update provides developers with a suite of new tools designed to enhance app promotion and re-engagement strategies. Developers can now utilise rich images and videos in product page headers and search results to highlight new content or seasonal offerings. A new Asset Library has also been introduced, allowing developers to store and organise marketing materials for in-app events and special promotions more efficiently.
The changes reflect an industry observation that being featured by Apple editors or achieving 'App of the Week' status no longer guarantees growth. To help developers package services and encourage existing customers to return, Apple is introducing 'App Bundles' for subscription businesses. This allows developers to partner with others to offer group subscriptions at a lower price point than individual purchases.
Additionally, the update includes multi-user in-app purchase options, enabling developers to sell subscriptions to larger groups and organisations. Apple Games developers can also showcase special offers directly within the Apple Games app. These measures are intended to provide new avenues for discovery and engagement as the App Store continues to evolve.
