Apple TV+ and Prime Video unveil first looks at Neuromancer and Carrie adaptations

Apple TV+ and Prime Video have unveiled initial teasers for high-profile literary adaptations during panels at San Diego Comic-Con, signalling aggressive expansion into genre television. Apple TV+ released a teaser for Neuromancer, an adaptation of William Gibson’s 1984 cyberpunk novel, while Prime Video showcased its upcoming miniseries based on Stephen King’s Carrie. The announcements underscore the intensifying competition among streaming platforms to secure prestige intellectual property.

The Neuromancer series, scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on 22 January 2027, follows a top-rung super-hacker named Case and his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin, as they execute a heist against a corporate dynasty. The cast features Callum Taylor as Case and Briana Middleton as Molly, supported by Mark Strong, Joseph Lee, Clemence Poesy, and Peter Sarsgaard. The ten-episode series will release its first two episodes simultaneously, with the remainder following a weekly schedule until 19 March 2027. Original author William Gibson serves as an executive producer on the project.

On the Prime Video front, Mike Flanagan’s six-episode adaptation of Carrie is set to debut on 7 October 2026. Flanagan, known for his previous Stephen King adaptations, stated during the panel that the series will not be a straight retelling of the novel or the iconic 1976 film. The cast includes Summer H. Howell as Carrie, Samantha Sloyan as her mother Margaret White, and a supporting ensemble featuring Alison Thornton, Rahul Kohli, and Matthew Lillard.

Apple TV+ also debuted the official trailer for the second season of its science fiction series Dark Matter, premiering on 28 August 2026. The season continues the story of quantum physicist Jason Dessen and his family as they navigate a new reality after being abducted by an alternate version of himself. Additionally, the platform announced Matchbox: The Movie, an action comedy starring John Cena and Jessica Biel, scheduled for release on 9 October 2026.

Marvel Studios used the event to confirm casting for future film projects. Ryan Gosling was announced as the star of a new Ghost Rider film, directed by Shawn Levy and slated for a 2028 release. Furthermore, David Jonsson has been cast as Toussaint, the son of T’Challa, in Black Panther III, which is currently scheduled for release on 15 December 2028.
