Apple to integrate Google Gemini into Siri overhaul at WWDC 2026
Leaks suggest the revamped Siri will leverage Google’s technology to compete with rival chatbots, while new features for the App Store, Camera, and Wallet apps signal a broader push into generative AI utility.

Apple is preparing to announce a significant restructuring of its Siri assistant and Apple Intelligence suite at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, which commences on Monday at 10 a.m. PT. The keynote event, accessible via the Apple Developer app, the company’s website, and the Apple Developer YouTube channel, will focus heavily on artificial intelligence capabilities. Central to this overhaul is the integration of Google’s Gemini technology, designed to enhance Siri’s conversational fluency, context retention, and ability to execute multi-step tasks across applications.
Market speculation indicates that Apple may launch a standalone Siri application intended to directly compete with established rivals such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Google’s own Gemini. According to reports from Bloomberg, this new app could include privacy-focused features such as automatic conversation deletion, allowing users to set timers for data removal after 30 days, one year, or to retain history indefinitely. This move signals a strategic shift toward positioning Siri as a primary generative AI interface rather than solely a system-level voice assistant.
Beyond the assistant itself, Apple is expected to introduce deeper AI agent integration within the App Store. As reported by The Information, these agents will enable users to delegate complex tasks, including booking reservations, managing daily schedules, editing documents, and controlling smart home devices. This functionality represents a move toward proactive AI assistance, allowing the operating system to act on user instructions across multiple third-party services.
Hardware and utility applications are also slated for updates. The Camera app will reportedly feature a new “Visual Intelligence” mode that leverages Google Image Search to identify objects, replacing the previous iteration found in the Camera Control button. Meanwhile, the Photos app is expected to receive enhanced editing capabilities driven by natural language commands, alongside intelligent scene recommendations and automatic object removal.
Additional updates are anticipated for the Image Playground and Wallet apps. Image Playground will reportedly offer higher-quality generation, improved character consistency, and a suggested Genmoji feature based on user interactions. The Wallet app is expected to introduce a bill-splitting function that allows users to photograph receipts and generate payment requests, as well as a “Create a Pass” option to digitise physical items such as movie tickets or gym memberships.
