Apple tests MacBook Neo with A19 Pro chip amid rising costs
Component shortages and previous price increases point to a more expensive refresh, while OLED MacBooks loom on the horizon.

Apple is reportedly in the testing phase for an updated MacBook Neo, a move that follows the model’s significant market success since its initial release. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the refreshed device will feature the A19 Pro processor, replacing the A18 Pro chip currently found in the existing model. The A19 Pro is the same silicon powering the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air.
The hardware refresh is expected to include a potential increase in system memory, with reports indicating an upgrade from 8GB to 12GB. While the current entry-level model starts with 256GB of storage, there are indications that Apple may discontinue this lowest-priced option for the new iteration. Additionally, the update is said to include new colour options for the device.
Market conditions suggest the new MacBook Neo will carry a higher price tag. Ongoing component shortages, combined with Apple’s decision to raise prices on nearly all its devices last month, point toward increased costs for consumers. The potential removal of the 256GB storage tier could further elevate the starting price for the updated laptop.
Beyond the MacBook Neo, the report outlines a broader roadmap for Apple’s computer lineup. Gurman notes that Apple plans to release new iMacs featuring OLED screens, continuing a refresh cycle that began in 2024. This aligns with earlier reports from analyst Tim Culpan, who highlighted the likelihood of the A19 Pro update earlier this year.
Looking further ahead, long-rumoured developments remain in the pipeline. Apple is expected to introduce M6 MacBook Pro models next year, alongside a redesigned base model 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an M7 chip. OLED touchscreen MacBooks are also anticipated to arrive sometime late this year or early next year, signalling a significant shift in display technology across the portfolio.
