Apple cuts over 200 roles in AI and hardware restructuring
The tech giant is reshuffling staff to prioritise newer artificial intelligence efforts, with significant reductions reported across its Vision Pro and Siri divisions.

Apple has confirmed the elimination of more than 200 positions as it seeks to streamline its workforce and refocus on emerging technologies. According to reports from Bloomberg, the cuts are distributed across two key areas: approximately 100 roles from the Vision Pro team and another 100 from the teams responsible for Siri and Intelligent Systems Experience. The latter unit is specifically tasked with integrating artificial intelligence into Apple’s devices.
The company stated that the restructuring is intended to “evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users.” Apple noted that while the changes will impact a limited number of existing roles, new positions will also be created as part of the transition. Sources indicate that the company is reshuffling staff to concentrate resources on its newer AI initiatives and upcoming hardware.
This move comes at a time when Apple is navigating a period of significant transition. The company is working to solidify its position in the competitive AI sector while managing rising production costs. A memory shortage, driven by the broader buildout of AI infrastructure, has increased the cost of producing flagship products, prompting Apple to raise prices on Macs and iPads earlier this summer.
To offset these new costs and attract a broader customer base, Apple recently introduced a leasing plan for its major hardware products. The company is also engaged in legal proceedings against OpenAI, which it has accused of trade theft, adding another layer of complexity to its current operational landscape.
The Vision Pro headset, described in reports as a long-suffering product, is particularly affected by the reductions. The impact on the Vision Pro gaming team is noted as significant within the restructuring. While Apple has not provided specific details on the nature of the new roles being created, the company emphasised that the changes are part of a broader effort to optimise its business structure.
Investors and industry observers will be watching how these adjustments affect Apple’s product roadmap and its ability to compete in the rapidly evolving AI market. The company’s focus on integrating AI into its devices through the Intelligent Systems Experience team suggests a strategic pivot towards software-driven differentiation.
