Anthropic introduces Reflect dashboard to curb AI overuse
The tool offers break reminders and quiet hours, though exact time-tracking metrics remain unavailable pending internal system upgrades.

Anthropic has launched Reflect, a new digital wellbeing dashboard integrated into the settings menu of its Claude chatbot. Designed to help users monitor and limit their interaction with the artificial intelligence tool, the feature aims to foster a more thoughtful relationship with the technology and prevent overuse that may negatively impact daily life.
The dashboard provides usage summaries for periods ranging from one to 12 months, offering a snapshot of conversation history rather than precise duration data. Users can access the tool by navigating to claude.ai, where the system generates a report detailing interactions. While the interface allows for the selection of different timeframes, the exact time spent using Claude is currently marked as "coming soon" on the relevant tab.
Ryn Linthicum, Anthropic's head of wellbeing policy, explained that the absence of precise time-tracking metrics stems from the company lacking an internal system for measuring duration when development of the dashboard began. Consequently, the tool focuses on behavioural controls rather than granular time analytics.
Reflect provides two primary mechanisms for managing usage. Users can configure break reminders to appear after intervals of 15, 30, or 45 minutes, or every few hours. Additionally, the feature allows for the setup of daily quiet hours, enabling users to restrict access during specific times. These restrictions can be set independently for each day of the week, allowing for tailored schedules, such as blocking access from 5pm to 8pm on weekdays while permitting it on weekends.
An "AI fluency" section within the dashboard offers recommendations to streamline usage, such as suggesting the use of the Projects feature to group similar prompts and reduce repetitive context setting. While the tool provides these nudges, enforcement relies on user compliance, as prompts can be freely dismissed. The initiative reflects Anthropic's broader focus on integrating wellbeing considerations into its productivity software.
