Anthropic folds Claude Cowork and chat into one interface

Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and its standard chat experience, allowing users to hand over larger tasks from within a conversation. The changes are rolling out to Pro and Max plans over the coming weeks across Claude’s web, desktop and mobile apps.

The company is also introducing Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta on paid plans, while Claude Design will operate within conversations. Anthropic says users will be able to create, edit, share and download documents and presentations, including in PowerPoint and PDF formats.

The consolidation follows Anthropic’s earlier decision to keep Cowork, designed for larger tasks, and Claude Design, focused on visual work, in separate spaces. The company says the merged experience is intended to carry context, skills and connectors across tasks, so users no longer need to decide where work should begin.

Users can choose how Claude seeks approval, with the default setting requiring confirmation before an action. An alternative allows Claude to continue working and check in only when it needs closer attention. Anthropic says existing Cowork chats, projects, artefacts, connectors and skills will remain available.

Team and Free plans are expected to follow, although Anthropic has not specified when. Enterprise administrators will receive at least 30 days’ notice before changes affect their organisations. The company’s announcement describes the product’s intended capabilities but provides no specific completion date for the rollout.
