Anthropic faces expanded class action over Claude Max subscription limits

Anthropic is facing an expanded class action lawsuit alleging it deceptively marketed its Claude Max subscriptions to power users. The complaint concerns plans priced at US$100 and US$200 a month.

Claude Max is an upgrade to Anthropic’s US$20-a-month Pro plan. The higher-priced plans are advertised as providing five or 20 times Pro’s usage limits, but the lawsuit claims that access is restricted to five-hour sessions and subject to weekly caps.

According to the complaint, those limits were presented less prominently than the usage multipliers in Anthropic’s marketing. The alleged weekly limits were introduced several months after Claude Max launched in April 2025.

The case is being brought by attorneys Monica Vaca and Kati Daffan. The complaint was initially filed in July, then withdrawn and refiled in expanded form.

Anthropic previously argued in a motion to dismiss the earlier case that the relevant limits were available through hyperlinks during the purchase process. The company said accessing the information was comparable to reading a product’s label.

The allegations have not been established in court, and the lawsuit’s eventual class status and outcome remain unresolved. Anthropic did not respond to The Verge’s request for comment, according to the supplied report.
