Amylyx shares surge after avexitide clears Phase 3 trial hurdles
The biotechnology firm’s stock jumped significantly following the release of positive data for its first-in-class GLP-1 receptor antagonist, which met all primary and secondary endpoints in the Lucidity trial.

Amylyx shares rose sharply on Tuesday after the company announced that its candidate drug, avexitide, achieved positive results in a late-stage clinical trial. The stock, which trades under the ticker AMLX, has since climbed to nearly three times its price at the start of the year, reflecting strong investor reaction to the data.
The Lucidity trial, which involved 78 participants, demonstrated a 55 per cent reduction in hypoglycaemic events for patients suffering from post-bariatric hypoglycaemia. The study successfully met the primary composite endpoint agreed upon with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as all secondary endpoints. The company noted that the drug maintained a clean safety profile throughout the trial.
Avexitide is a first-in-class GLP-1 receptor antagonist designed to treat a condition that currently lacks FDA-approved treatments. The condition affects individuals following bariatric surgery, where life-threatening spikes in low blood sugar can occur. Due to the high unmet need in this area, avexitide holds both Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug designations.
Looking ahead, Amylyx plans to submit a New Drug Application to the FDA by the end of 2026. The company is targeting a commercial launch in 2027, with a projected cash runway extending into 2028. This financial positioning allows the firm to pursue further pipeline expansion, including long-acting GLP-1 antagonists.
Market analysts have responded positively to the milestone, with the Wall Street consensus rating for AMLX standing at Strong Buy. Some price targets have been set as high as $40, suggesting potential for further upside over the next 12 months. The positive sentiment follows a period where the stock had already gained significant ground, including a notable seasonal increase in September.
