Amazon-owned Blink launches first wired-only 2K video doorbell at under $50
Preorders are now open for the devices, with shipping scheduled to commence on 20 May, as Blink expands its high-resolution camera lineup to include a budget-friendly wired option.

Amazon-owned Blink has officially introduced two new video doorbell models designed to deliver 2K resolution, marking a notable evolution in its smart home hardware portfolio. The launch includes the Blink Wired Doorbell 2K+ and the Blink Battery Doorbell 2K+, both of which are available for preorder with deliveries expected to begin on 20 May. This announcement follows a previous 2K camera lineup revealed by the company last autumn, further solidifying its position in the high-definition security market.
The most significant development in this release is the introduction of the Blink Wired Doorbell 2K+, which represents the brand's first wired-only doorbell that does not require a Sync Module hub. Listed at $49.99 on Amazon, though company documentation indicates a starting price of $39.99, the device offers a distinct advantage over previous iterations by removing the dependency on lithium AA batteries. This design choice allows for a smaller form factor and generally lower costs, positioning it as one of the most affordable 2K-capable buzzers currently available to consumers.
In contrast, the Blink Battery Doorbell 2K+ retains the traditional battery-powered design, priced at $69.99 for users who already possess a Sync Module. For those purchasing the device without an existing hub, the bundled price rises to $79.99. While the new wired model offers a streamlined installation experience, the removal of batteries means the device loses the ability to operate during a power outage, a trade-off inherent to hardwired security systems. Both models, however, support Blink's smart video descriptions, an AI-powered feature that generates text summaries of captured events, such as identifying a person playing basketball in the driveway.
Access to these advanced AI features requires a subscription to either the Basic AI tier or the Plus AI tier, with monthly costs ranging from $6.99 to $19.99 depending on the number of devices covered. For users seeking lower-cost options, Blink continues to offer standard plans starting at $3.99 per month, which provide 60 days of cloud storage and on-device person alerts without the AI summarisation capabilities. Those preferring a subscription-free approach can still utilise the devices for live view, two-way audio, and motion alerts.
Local recording remains a viable option for users wishing to avoid cloud subscriptions entirely. The new devices can record to an SD card via the Sync Module XR or to a USB stick using the Sync Module 2. In terms of market positioning, the Blink Wired Doorbell 2K+ is priced competitively against rivals, undercutting Wyze's $60 wired 2K doorbell and Ring's $79.99 equivalent, reinforcing Blink's reputation as a budget-conscious alternative within the smart home sector.
