Amazon integrates Luna game streaming into Prime Video app
The move coincides with Netflix’s expansion into TV-based gaming, as Amazon seeks to reduce reliance on dedicated hardware amid rising costs.
Amazon has commenced the rollout of its Luna game streaming service within the Prime Video application on Fire TV devices in the United States and the United Kingdom. The update introduces a dedicated Games tab to the app, allowing Prime subscribers to access a selection of titles at no additional cost using a phone or controller. Amazon plans to expand this integration to other countries and devices in the coming months.
The integration aims to reduce the need for subscribers to purchase dedicated gaming hardware, such as PCs or consoles, particularly amid rising hardware prices. Amazon refreshes its Luna game lineup monthly, with current titles including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Fallout 4, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Control, Dispatch, EA Sports FC 26, Clue, Ticket to Ride, and Taboo.
Amazon is leveraging cross-promotional synergy, such as linking the Masters of the Universe movie on Prime Video with the Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite co-op game. The company notes that adding games to Prime Video makes it easier for members to go deeper into their favourite franchises.
The move coincides with Netflix’s recent expansion into TV-based gaming, including titles such as Unhinged and a World Cup game. Netflix has reported that its recent cloud game debuts were among its most successful.
Luna is included at no extra cost for existing Prime subscribers. The specific timeline for expansion to other countries and devices remains vague, described only as in the coming months.
