Albanese marks 25 years since September 11 attacks
The prime minister honours victims, including 10 Australians, as well as survivors and first responders.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, honouring those killed, survivors, first responders and people still affected by the events.
In comments reported by The Guardian, Albanese said the attacks in New York, Washington DC and Pennsylvania claimed 2,977 lives, including 10 Australians whose lives were “tragically cut short far from home”.
He acknowledged the grief carried by the victims’ loved ones and paid tribute to the courage and selflessness shown during the attacks. He said first responders ran towards danger to help others, while ordinary people reached out to one another.
Albanese described the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on “resilience in the face of profound loss”. He said Australia remembers those who died, those who survived, people who have since died and everyone who continues to carry the weight of that day.
