The Alabama Crimson Tide are less than two weeks away from their 2026 season opener against East Carolina, with the conclusion of fall camp bringing clarity to several key positional battles. According to an updated two-deep depth chart projection released by Roll Tide Wire, the coaching staff is expected to finalise its starting lineup in the near future, particularly at quarterback and on the offensive line.

On the offensive side, Keelon Russell is projected to start at quarterback, with Austin Mack listed as the backup. The primary uncertainty on the offensive line remains at left guard, where Mal Waldrep Jr. is currently the preferred starter over William Sanders. Both players have been competing for the role throughout camp, but the projection favours Waldrep for the Week 1 matchup.

Injuries have significantly altered the depth chart at the skill positions. Running back AK Dear, who was considered a standout during fall camp prior to his injury, and wide receiver Noah Rogers are currently sidelined. Consequently, Kevin Riley has moved into the RB2 spot, while Derek Meadows is projected as the third-string wide receiver, with Ryan Coleman-Williams and Cederian Morgan leading the wide receiver group.

Defensively, the Crimson Tide’s secondary is described as set, with Zabien Brown and Dijon Lee Jr. projected to start at cornerback, and Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb at safety. The defensive line features Terrance Green and London Simmons as the primary interior tackles, with Devan Thompkins and Yhonzae Pierre starting at the bandit and wolf positions, respectively.

The most significant ongoing competition on defence is at inside linebacker. Caleb Woodson is projected to start alongside QB Reese, who is listed in the projection as the second inside linebacker. Luke Metz and true freshman Xavier Griffin are noted as emerging players who are likely to see early action in the season, adding depth to the linebacker group.

This projection serves as a snapshot of the team’s status as it approaches the regular season, highlighting the balance between established starters and emerging talent. The final decision on the starting quarterback and left guard will be critical for the Crimson Tide’s performance against East Carolina.
