Airbnb broadens travel ecosystem with hotel bookings and grocery delivery
The accommodation giant is expanding beyond short-term rentals to offer a comprehensive travel concierge, introducing hotel price-matching, airport transfers, and in-app grocery services across multiple global cities.

Airbnb is significantly widening its service offering, moving beyond its traditional core of room and home rentals to integrate thousands of boutique and independent hotels into its platform. Starting this summer, the company will list accommodations in major metropolitan hubs including New York, Paris, London, Madrid, Rome, and Singapore. To compete with established booking engines such as Booking.com and Agoda, Airbnb has introduced a price-matching guarantee for these listings and is offering up to 15 percent in credit for future bookings on featured hotels. While the long-term permanence of these incentives remains unclear, the move signals a deliberate effort to capture a larger share of the broader travel market.
In a parallel expansion of its utility services, Airbnb is introducing in-app grocery delivery through a partnership with Instacart. The service is currently available in 25 US cities, allowing guests to have groceries delivered during their stay or pre-stocked in their rental prior to arrival. Guests benefit from free delivery fees and a $10 discount on orders exceeding $50. The company has not confirmed whether this service will extend internationally beyond the initial US rollout, though the integration addresses a common logistical hurdle for travellers navigating foreign retail apps.
The platform is also consolidating ground transport and luggage management into a single interface. Through a partnership with Welcome Pickups, Airbnb guests can now book airport transfers in 160 cities, with the company’s drivers tracking flight arrivals to meet guests upon landing. Booking through the app provides a 20 percent discount on these rides. Additionally, Airbnb has integrated with luggage storage provider Bounce, allowing users to locate nearby drop-off points within the app and view their proximity to their accommodation. Users receive 20 percent credit toward their next booking for utilizing this service.
Car rental services are also set to launch this summer, with the platform displaying vehicles located near the guest’s listing. Similar to other new additions, Airbnb is incentivising adoption by returning 20 percent of the cost of the first car rental as credit. These additions complement the company’s existing history of offering apartment-style and serviced apartments, further blurring the lines between short-term rentals and traditional hospitality services.
Finally, Airbnb is expanding its 'Experiences' portfolio to include landmark tours and major sporting events. New offerings feature guided access to sites such as the Tokyo Skytree and the Taj Mahal. The company is also capitalising on upcoming global events, introducing FIFA World Cup experiences in six host cities, including host parties with previous champions. This diversification into food culture and event-based activities underscores Airbnb’s strategy to become a comprehensive travel concierge rather than merely an accommodation provider.
