Achane’s Madden rating sparks debate over NFL recognition
Despite leading the league in yards per rush and earning team MVP honours, De’Von Achane’s visibility remains limited by Miami’s projected win total and his reserved public profile.
EA Sports has ranked Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane as the 11th-best player at his position in the upcoming Madden NFL 27 video game, a placement that has drawn sharp criticism from analysts. ESPN’s Joe Schadt described the rating as absurd and borderline disrespectful, noting that the ranking places Achane behind Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams despite the Dolphins’ star recording superior statistical output last season.
Achane, 24, was the Miami Dolphins’ only Pro Bowler and team MVP during the 2026 season. He led the NFL in yards per rush with an average of 5.7 and recorded 1,838 total yards from scrimmage. ESPN currently ranks Achane as the sixth-best running back for fantasy football purposes, a position that suggests his national perception is significantly lower than his on-field performance warrants.
Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley, who previously served as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, recalled being confused and losing sleep while preparing to face Achane. Hafley described him as the most dynamic player on the team, emphasising that Achane’s quiet leadership style and lack of public predictions often limit his media presence.
The Dolphins are projected to win only four or five games in the upcoming season, a factor that keeps the team off major NFL media radars. This low win projection, combined with Achane’s soft-spoken nature, contributes to his under-discussed status. Unlike quarterbacks, who typically command higher celebrity status in Miami sports history, running backs rarely achieve the same level of public recognition regardless of their individual success.
Achane is described as a lead-by-example leader who does not demand the ball or make public predictions about his statistics. While he is regarded as a good teammate who helps push his peers, his reserved personality means he does not seek the spotlight. Analysts suggest that Achane’s status as an elite star in the NFL is currently obscured by the team’s overall performance projections and the position’s inherent lack of celebrity compared to the quarterback role.
