Aces seek third straight win as Sparks look to halt momentum
Las Vegas aims to extend a four-game winning streak while the Sparks, led by Nneka Ogwumike’s historic scoring milestone, seek to rebound from recent inconsistencies.

The Las Vegas Aces will host the Los Angeles Sparks at the Michelob ULTRA Arena on Saturday, 23 May 2026, at 8 p.m. ET, in a contest that carries significant weight for both franchises. The reigning WNBA champions, currently holding a 4-1 record, are looking to extend their four-game winning streak. The Sparks, sitting at 2-3, aim to stabilise their form after a recent victory over the Phoenix Mercury. The match will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
A pre-game ceremony will unveil the Aces' 2025 championship banner, marking a formal recognition of their title defence. This follows the ring ceremony held on 9 May, which coincided with their only loss of the season to the Mercury. The Aces’ recent form has been dominant, highlighted by a 85-84 victory against the Atlanta Dream where Chelsea Gray delivered a clutch performance in the final seconds.
The historical context of this matchup adds another layer of complexity. While the Sparks lead the all-time series 57-51, the Aces have won their last three encounters. Their most recent meeting on 10 May resulted in a 105-78 victory for Las Vegas. That game saw Kelsey Plum score a game-high 27 points against her former team, while the Aces shot 62.3% from the field, the second-best percentage in franchise history.
Individual performances have been pivotal for both sides. For the Aces, newcomer Chennedy Carter has established a record for the most points by a player coming off the bench in their first five games of a season. Averaging a career-high 19.4 points per game, Carter has been described by coach Becky Hammon as a "spark plug" who brings high-intensity energy to the bench.
For the Sparks, Nneka Ogwumike continues to rewrite history. In their 97-88 win over the Mercury on Thursday, she scored 12 points to move to fifth place on the WNBA all-time scoring list with 7,383 career points. Ogwumike, who rejoined the Sparks as a free agent after two seasons with the Seattle Storm, is averaging 15.6 points per game this season.
