Philadelphia 76ers players Justin Edwards and Dominick Barlow attended the Philadelphia Union’s pregame ceremony at Subaru Park on Wednesday night. The pair joined the club’s traditional pregame drum strike ahead of the Union’s match against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.
The attendance highlights a growing pattern of NBA players engaging with the Union during the league’s break. Edwards, a Philadelphia native, was seen wearing the Union’s City edition kit, which features colours honouring the city’s other sports teams on the collar. Barlow, meanwhile, sported an Oasis kit.
This participation follows a precedent set by other Sixers players. In May, Adem Bona took part in the pregame honour. In prior seasons, Tyrese Maxey, Cameron Payne, Guerschon Yabusele, Andre Drummond, and Paul Reed have all struck the drum.
The event occurred during the NBA offseason, a period described as hectic due to significant roster movements across the league. With the NBA set to return in less than two months, the ceremony offered players a chance to unwind before the upcoming campaign.
For the 76ers, the upcoming season is expected to see Edwards and Barlow sharing the court with new acquisitions Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. Barlow aims to build on his strong performances from the previous year, while Edwards looks to recover from a lackluster campaign.
