Xbox Unveils New Mechanics and Release Dates for Halo: Campaign Evolved
New gameplay footage reveals co-op modes, 42 collectible modifiers, and a hidden third-person camera option ahead of the July 28 multi-platform launch.

Xbox has released new gameplay footage and detailed specifications for Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the single-player campaign from the original Halo title. The publisher shared three extensive gameplay videos and a accompanying blog post to outline key mechanics ahead of the game's scheduled release on July 28 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
The title offers players the ability to tackle missions either solo or with a friend in co-op mode. A central feature of the remake is the inclusion of 42 collectible "skulls" that act as gameplay modifiers. These items allow players to adjust difficulty levels, enhance the protagonist's capabilities, or trigger visual effects such as confetti explosions upon defeating enemies.
A "campaign remix" mode has also been introduced, which randomises weapons, alters enemy behaviour, and creates new encounters alongside visual modifiers. This feature aims to provide a varied experience for players revisiting the franchise's origins, adding layers of unpredictability to the standard campaign structure.
The remake also features a third-person camera view, a perspective previously utilised in Halo Infinite. However, this option is not available by default; players must locate a specific hidden skull within the game to unlock the feature. This design choice encourages exploration and engagement with the game's collectible system.
Full gameplay of the "Assault on the Control Room" level was showcased in the new materials. This specific level served as the basis for a demo released following the recent Xbox Games Showcase, providing a preview of the remake's graphical fidelity and level design.
Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC players can access the game on July 28. Those who purchase the Premium Edition or the Collector's Edition will gain early access to the title on July 23, allowing them to experience the campaign five days before the general public release.
