Roblox daily active users fall to 132 million as age verification rollout impacts growth
New safety measures and a ban in Russia have tempered expectations for top-line growth in 2026.

Roblox has reported a second consecutive quarterly decline in its daily active users, with the global figure falling to 132 million. This represents a significant drop of 20 million users over the last six months, marking a downturn from 144 million at the end of the previous year and 152 million in Q3 2025. In the United States and Canada specifically, the number of active users decreased by one million from the prior quarter.
The company attributes this contraction in user acquisition to the rollout of its age verification technology, which management states has slowed the onboarding of new accounts. According to the latest earnings report, 51 per cent of global daily active users have undergone age checks by the end of the first quarter, with that figure rising to 65 per cent for users in the United States. Concurrently, a ban imposed by Russia in December 2025 contributed to the reduction in daily active users.
Despite the decline in user metrics, Roblox's financial performance showed resilience, with revenue growing to $1.4 billion. The company has responded to the regulatory and safety landscape by expanding age restrictions to limit game access based on specific user age brackets. To incentivise spending from the older demographic, the company also announced a 42 per cent increase in the Developer Exchange rate for in-game spending from age-checked users over 18.
Looking ahead, management has lowered its expectations for top-line growth in 2026 due to these ongoing safety measures. The firm plans to implement additional improvements over the coming quarters designed to facilitate age-appropriate access to content and product features. This strategic shift reflects a broader push to increase the number of games on the platform targeted at users older than 18, aiming to balance safety compliance with long-term platform viability.
