PFF Rankings Place Texans Cornerbacks in Top 10 for 2026 Season
Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter are ranked seventh and ninth respectively, with analysts arguing the duo forms the league’s best cornerback pairing despite lower visibility in other NFL assessments.
Pro Football Focus has released its preliminary rankings for the top 32 cornerbacks ahead of the 2026 NFL season, placing Houston Texans players Derek Stingley Jr. at No. 7 and Kamari Lassiter at No. 9. The publication’s analysis suggests that the Texans’ secondary remains underrated relative to broader NFL evaluations, with PFF analysts contending that Stingley and Lassiter constitute the league’s premier cornerback duo.
Stingley, a two-time All-Pro, enters the list behind established benchmarks including former Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II, Seattle’s Devon Witherspoon, and Indianapolis’ Sauce Gardner. According to PFF analyst Dalton Wasserman, Stingley’s positioning is influenced by yards conceded before contact, noting a volatile 2025 campaign in coverage. Despite this, Stingley recorded four interceptions and nine pass breakups last season, demonstrating elite ball skills that have kept his three-year average coverage grade at 90.3, second among qualified cornerbacks.
Lassiter, selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, secured an immediate starting role and has maintained a high level of performance. He graded over 80 in both run defence and coverage last season, contributing four interceptions and 14 pass breakups. His two-year PFF grade stands at 82.1, ranking seventh among qualified cornerbacks, with Wasserman describing him as a physical run defender who is quietly emerging as one of the NFL’s best at the position.
The Texans’ secondary structure also includes DeJean, who lines up in the slot and sees repetitions at safety, allowing Stingley and Lassiter to focus on outside roles. Stingley has been identified as the best man-coverage cornerback in the AFC since 2024, while Lassiter provides significant strength in run support. This configuration positions Houston as a leading force in the AFC, with the potential to field the sport’s top cornerback tandem.
While other assessments may undervalue the unit, the data from Pro Football Focus underscores the depth and capability of Houston’s defensive backfield. With Stingley and Lassiter both featured in the top 10, the Texans are positioned to leverage their secondary as a cornerstone of their defensive strategy for the upcoming season.
