Pentagon Releases New Declassified UFO Files Amid Push for Transparency
The US government coordinates with NASA and intelligence agencies to share video footage and historical records, though it maintains no evidence of extraterrestrial life.

The Pentagon has released approximately 160 newly declassified documents concerning unidentified anomalous phenomena on a dedicated website. The disclosure, which includes video footage, images, and historical records dating back to the 1940s and the Apollo programme, marks a significant step in government transparency regarding long-standing speculation.
Coordinated by the White House, the Director of National Intelligence, the Energy Department, NASA, and the FBI, the release aims to provide the public with maximum clarity on the subject. President Donald Trump, who directed the initiative, stated that previous secrecy had fuelled justified speculation and that it was time for the American people to see the information for themselves.
Among the specific content details are accounts from Apollo crews, including a photograph showing unidentified lights taken from the Moon's surface during the Apollo 17 mission. The files also contain a compendium of handwritten and typewritten UAP reports from the late 1940s, alongside more recent visual evidence.
Recent highlights include sightings of orbs in the western US in 2023, an amoeba-like shape captured by the US Indo-Pacific Command in 2024, and a bright round shape filmed by the US Central Command in Syria earlier this year. These entries add to the growing body of unexplained phenomena recorded by federal employees and military personnel.
While the mysterious nature of these sightings has fueled popular belief in extraterrestrial visitors, the US government has not claimed evidence of extraterrestrial life in any of the disclosures. Pentagon officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, emphasised that the focus remains on transparency rather than confirming the origin of the anomalies.
Some versions of previously known documents in this release contain additional pages or fewer redactions than prior versions, offering fresh details to researchers and the public. However, many of the files are already publicly available, with the new drop serving to consolidate and update the existing record.
The release follows a week of high-profile discussions regarding aliens, including comments from former President Barack Obama and members of the Artemis II crew, who questioned the likelihood of a vast government-wide conspiracy to hide such discoveries.
