OpenAI consolidates ChatGPT and Codex into single agentic platform as Brockman takes product lead
Company president Greg Brockman assumes official oversight of product strategy, merging key tools into one unified experience while AGI boss Fidji Simo remains on medical leave.

OpenAI has announced a further reorganisation of its executive structure, formally appointing company president Greg Brockman as the official lead for all product areas. In an internal memo viewed by The Verge, Brockman confirmed the company is consolidating its efforts to invest in a single agentic platform, merging the ChatGPT and Codex experiences into one unified interface.
The restructuring marks the end of an interim period during which Brockman oversaw product operations while AGI boss Fidji Simo remains on medical leave. Simo had previously worked directly with Brockman on organisational changes and product strategy. During her absence, business operations have been managed by chief strategy officer Jason Kwon, chief financial officer Sarah Friar, and chief revenue officer Denise Dresser.
Under Brockman’s new official mandate, which also includes oversight of the company’s “scaling” arm, four new operational pillars have been established. Thibault Sottiaux, formerly the engineering lead for Codex, will lead the core product and platform pillar. Nick Turley, who helped grow ChatGPT to more than 900 million users, will take charge of critical enterprise industries.
The consumer pillar, covering health, commerce, and personal finance, will be led by Ashley Alexander, the former healthcare products vice-president. Vijaye Raji, previously the chief technology officer of applications, will oversee core infrastructure, ads, data science, and growth.
The move comes as OpenAI faces intensifying competition from rivals such as Anthropic in the coding domain and Google in the consumer chatbot space. The company is shifting resources away from “side quests” to focus on key revenue drivers like coding and enterprise solutions, aiming to turn a profit ahead of a potential initial public offering later this year.
Brockman stated in the memo that the goal is to “bring agents to ChatGPT scale,” providing significantly more value and utility to individuals and organisations. The reorganisation reflects investor pressure on the company to simplify its product offerings and accelerate monetisation strategies as it prepares for public markets.
