MLB Injury Watch: Rangers Place Eovaldi on IL; Blue Jays Monitor Taillon

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo left play with knee soreness but is not expected to require an MRI.
The Texas Rangers have placed right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation, a move executed ahead of their road series against the Los Angeles Angels. To fill the vacancy in the rotation, the club has recalled rookie right-hander Ben Peoples from Triple-A Round Rock.
Eovaldi, 36, has been the Rangers’ most durable starter this season, leading the team in wins with 10 and innings pitched with 132 2/3. He holds a 4.21 earned run average and has maintained a 3.38 ERA across 98 regular-season starts since joining the franchise in 2023. His most recent outing saw him limit the Baltimore Orioles to one run over 5 1/3 innings before departing after 86 pitches.
In Toronto, Blue Jays manager John Schneider opted for a precautionary approach with new acquisition Jameson Taillon. The right-hander exited his home start against the Boston Red Sox after four scoreless innings due to right forearm discomfort. Schneider cited Taillon’s injury history as a primary factor in the decision to pull him, noting that the pitcher was experiencing tightness while attempting to generate extension on his cutter and slider.
Taillon, acquired from the Chicago Cubs on 2 August, is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. Schneider emphasised that the club is being proactive to avoid exacerbating the issue, despite Taillon’s effective performance in his debut against the Houston Astros earlier in the month.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks managed a potential setback with shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, who left a game against the Colorado Rockies before the fifth inning due to left knee soreness. Manager Torey Lovullo attributed the discomfort to a lunge toward first base during a previous game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and stated that the injury is not considered serious.
Perdomo, a 2023 All-Star who has appeared in 116 of 120 games this season, expressed low concern regarding the injury and indicated that an MRI is not currently planned. Lovullo described the shortstop as a 50-50 decision for the next start, suggesting the team may rest him to ensure full recovery.
