LG UltraGear evo GM9 5K gaming monitor available for pre-order in the US
LG continues its post-CES rollout with a high-resolution monitor offering dual-mode refresh rates and advanced connectivity.
LG has made the UltraGear evo GM9 5K gaming monitor available for pre-order in the United States for $1,200. The 27-inch device represents a strategic shift in LG's display portfolio, moving away from the Tandem OLED technology used in the previous UltraGear GX7 model to its proprietary Hyper Mini LED technology. This new panel is designed to reduce light leakage and blooming by minimising the gap between the LED backlights and the display surface.
The monitor features a 5K resolution of 5,120 x 2,880 pixels with a peak brightness of 1,250 nits and 2,304 local dimming zones. To maximise the utility of this high-resolution hardware, the device includes built-in AI upscaling, allowing games and content to run at 5K without requiring a dedicated high-end graphics card. It also supports AI Scene Optimisation for real-time image adjustments and AI Sound for audio processing.
For users prioritising frame rate over maximum resolution, LG has implemented a Dual Mode functionality. This allows the screen to operate at 5K with a 165Hz refresh rate or switch to 1140p to achieve a 330Hz refresh rate. The display is further equipped with NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium support to mitigate graphical issues such as flickering and screen tearing during gameplay.
Connectivity options include DisplayPort 2.1 and a USB-C port capable of 90W Power Delivery. This configuration enables users to transfer data and charge compatible laptops using a single cable, streamlining the setup for both gaming and productivity workflows. While designed primarily for gaming, LG notes that the monitor is also suitable for professional use-cases.
The UltraGear evo GM9 is currently available for pre-order on LG's website at the stated price point. The company has indicated that the monitor will be released in other markets throughout the year, though specific international release dates have not been confirmed.
