Figure AI’s 24/7 Robot Livestream Highlights Capital and Capability Gaps
Backed by $2 billion in funding, Figure AI’s continuous demonstration of its Figure 03 robots has drawn intense scrutiny regarding autonomy, with investors including Microsoft and Nvidia watching closely.

Robotics startup Figure AI has maintained a continuous 24/7 livestream of its Figure 03 humanoid robots performing autonomous package handling tasks since 13 May. Initially scheduled as an eight-hour demonstration, the event extended indefinitely after the machines completed 48 hours of non-stop operation without failure. The broadcast has attracted significant public attention, with viewers engaging in prediction markets and naming the robots, while the company has capitalised on the visibility by promoting merchandise and highlighting its technical infrastructure.
The robots operate using the Helix 02 neural network, which runs entirely onboard each unit’s hardware to enable full-body control and long-horizon autonomy. According to Figure CEO Brett Adcock, the system is trained on over 1,000 hours of human motion data and extensive simulation. While the robots function independently, they are networked to communicate and can autonomously request a replacement unit if batteries run low, typically after three to four hours of work. This setup allows for a seamless rotation of units to maintain the continuous workflow required for the livestream.
On 17 May, the demonstration featured a “Man vs. Machine” competition between the robots and human intern Aimé Gérard. Working a 10-hour shift that included breaks mandated by California labour laws, Gérard sorted 12,924 packages compared to the robots’ 12,732. Adcock noted that Gérard worked at a rate of 2.79 seconds per package, slightly faster than the robots’ average of 2.83 seconds. Despite the human victory, Adcock predicted on social media that this would be the last time a human would win such a contest.
The event has drawn scrutiny regarding the level of true independence demonstrated. While Adcock insists the robots operate without human teleoperators, some observers have questioned the autonomy, citing a history in the industry where similar demos have relied on remote control. The lack of independent verification on the ground makes it difficult to confirm the extent of human intervention, a concern that has previously been raised against other major robotics firms.
Figure AI has raised nearly $2 billion from investors including Microsoft, Nvidia, Intel, Amazon, and OpenAI. The company’s previous Figure 02 model was deployed in an 11-month pilot at the BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina in 2025, contributing to the production of 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles. However, BMW stated in February 2026 that it was still evaluating future use cases for the newer Figure 03 robot, highlighting the cautious approach automakers are taking as they assess the commercial viability of humanoid AI.
