Atlus confirms Persona 6 existence with dark teaser at Xbox showcase
The long-awaited sixth mainline instalment in the Persona series has been officially announced by Atlus, though details remain scarce. The studio also confirmed a release date for Persona 4 Revival during the Xbox Games Showcase.

Atlus has officially confirmed the existence of Persona 6 during the Xbox Games Showcase, marking the first all-new entry in the franchise since 2017. The announcement was accompanied by a brief teaser that hinted at a significantly darker tone for the upcoming title, though the studio provided no further narrative details or specific plot points.
The game is confirmed for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. However, Atlus did not disclose a specific release date or launch window for the title. The studio described the project as a bold, standalone story that blends heartfelt daily life simulations with supernatural adventure, a description that aligns with the core mechanics of previous instalments in the series.
This announcement follows a period of activity for Atlus that has included enhanced and remade versions of existing titles rather than new mainline entries. Persona 5 Royal launched in 2022, and the developer also released a remake of Persona 3 in recent years. Additionally, longtime Persona director Katsura Hashino led development on Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was released in 2024.
In addition to the Persona 6 reveal, Atlus confirmed that Persona 4 Revival will be released on 18 February. The studio has not yet clarified whether this title constitutes a remake, remaster, or a new adaptation of the original game, leaving the exact nature of the project open to interpretation ahead of its launch.
The announcement arrives amidst a broader shift in the gaming industry, with Microsoft recently confirming a multi-platform strategy for its Fable franchise, scheduled for a simultaneous launch on Xbox, PC, and PS5 in February 2027. The Xbox Games Showcase also featured the announcement of the conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, highlighting a strong showing for Japanese role-playing games during the event.
