8BitDo unveils Arcade Controller Pro with integrated screen and hardware upgrades

8BitDo has announced the Arcade Controller Pro, an updated iteration of its leverless gaming peripheral that debuted approximately a year ago. Building on the original model’s Hitbox-style design, which replaces traditional joysticks with buttons to enhance precision, the new Pro version introduces a slimmer 16mm profile and a suite of hardware modifications aimed at reducing reliance on companion software.
A key addition to the Pro model is a small monochromatic screen located on the device. This display allows users to customise button mapping, check battery levels, adjust accent lighting, and configure multi-button press behaviours directly on the controller. This functionality removes the immediate need for the 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 app, although the company confirmed the software remains supported for further configuration.
The controller now features five programmable buttons, including an additional unit on the left side. Each button utilises an 8BitDo Core Green low-profile linear mechanical switch, co-developed with Kailh, which are hot-swappable to allow for different tactile feedback. The company has also redesigned the round buttons to facilitate easier installation and includes five flush-mounted lock caps to disable programmable inputs and prevent accidental presses.
Connectivity options include Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless connections, with battery life estimated at up to 15 hours of playtime. The device also includes a dedicated screenshot button for the Nintendo Switch. While the original Arcade Controller retails for $89.99, 8BitDo has not yet confirmed the pricing or availability for the Pro version.
The announcement follows the original model’s release last year, positioning the Pro as a refined option for competitive gamers seeking hardware-level customisation. With no preorder timing or final cost disclosed, investors and consumers await further details on the commercial launch of the updated hardware.
