2026 Sci-Fi Streaming Season Brings Early Premieres and Major Returns to Netflix, HBO and Apple TV

The 2026 science fiction landscape on major streaming platforms is projected to be exceptionally dense, with Netflix, HBO and Apple TV leading the charge. A notable shift in release strategy sees significant premieres moving from the traditional summer window to late spring, a change designed to reduce narrative overlap for viewers.
Apple TV remains heavily represented in this year's lineup, hosting a mix of returning hits and new productions. Established series such as Silo, Dark Matter and Sugar are set to return, while the narrative arc of For All Mankind concludes with its penultimate season. Concurrently, a spinoff titled Star City launches to explore the Soviet perspective on the space race, premiering on the same day that season five of the main series wraps up.
New additions to the slate include The Boroughs on Netflix, produced by the Duffer brothers following their work on Stranger Things. Set within a retirement community, the series centres on an extraterrestrial mystery and features a notable cast including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Clarke Peters and Bill Pullman.
On HBO, Lanterns debuts as a grounded police procedural based on the novel by Blake Crouch. The series follows two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. Meanwhile, Apple TV's Dark Matter returns for its second season, picking up with the scientist protagonist after a period of apparent normalcy following the multiverse events of the first season.
Silo heads into its third season on Apple TV, expanding its scope to detail the distant past events that destroyed the world. The series is confirmed to end with season four, leaving a significant amount of story to resolve within a short timeframe. Sugar also returns for season two, continuing the noir-inspired detective story of John Sugar as he takes on a new case involving a boxer's brother while the search for his missing sister continues.
